A roadway consists of more than just pavement, and here at SRD we take care to consider all elements that impact a traveler’s experience. Traffic load, nearby schools, attractions, and context classification are just a few aspects that we consider when determining what changes are needed, and what the best way to implement those changes are.
With any roadway project, there comes a risk of impacting nearby utilities. Our Utility Coordination team works to prevent project delays by identifying and resolving utility conflicts early, developing conflict matrices, and coordinating directly with utility companies. We oversee relocation planning and scheduling, ensure proper spacing and alignment within the right-of-way, verify installation locations and elevations, maintain accurate as-builts, prepare agreements, and manage reimbursement documentation.
An excess of water either in the roadway or in adjacent areas can be a hazard. We deploy a range of strategies to channel water efficiently, guiding it to an appropriate location. This proactive approach minimizes the risk of hydroplaning incidents or property flooding.
In our Signal projects, we design or adjust roadway intersections to be as safe and efficient as possible for all drivers, passengers, and pedestrians in the area. This is accomplished through signal design, timing analysis, and clearance calculations to ensure the highest standards of safety and functionality within the area.
We perform an initial inspection of the existing drainage system (catch basins, ditches, and swales). Next, we prepare the inspection report documentation in accordance with the local maintaining agency. We then provide both the client and maintaining agency with the results of our findings, and any needed recommendations. From there we will coordinate with the contractor to provide a cost estimate on any improvements recommended in the 5-year inspection report. A final inspection will be conducted with the client after improvements have been completed. We will later certify improvements and complete a 2-year drainage inspection.
Improvement of safety for all road users is a priority in our designs. We implement a variety of speed management techniques aimed at mitigating crash severity. These include signage and pavement markings to enhance driver awareness of road conditions. We also integrate features such as sidewalks, crosswalks, and dedicated bike lanes to provide pedestrians a safe and easily traversable path.
